Biographical history

Walter Mayne Woodburn owned and operated a drugstore in Grand Forks, Yukon. He was also the Mayor of Grand Forks for a short time.

Custodial history

Walter Woodburn, Jr. gave the fonds to Michael Gates of Klondike National Historic Sites. Mr. Gates copied some of the photographs for the KNHS collection and then forwarded the fonds to the Yukon Archives.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of original photographs, ca. 1898-1904, primarily of Grand Forks, Yukon. Many images include views of Woodburn's Drug Store and other street scenes in Grand Forks. Also included are views of mining activities, mining machinery and Dominion Day celebrations in Grand Forks. The following photographer's images are represented here: Kinsey & Kinsey; Johnson; Cantwell; E. A. Hegg; and Larss & Duclos. Also included are three mounted official letters dated 1901, 1902 and 1903 giving Walter Mayne Woodburn power of office as postmaster, a pharmaceutical chemist, and the ability to administer oaths and declarations, all for Grand Forks, Yukon.
