Scope and content
The collection consists of photographs, copied from original images, held at the University of Washington. The collection represents the work of a number of photographers including: Asahel Curtis, E.O. Ellingsen, H.J. Goetzman, Larss & Duclos and Sarvant. The photographs came from three collections at the University of Washington: the Alaska and Yukon Miscellaneous Collection; the Yukon Miscellaneous Collection; and the Child Collection. The majority of the original photographs date from 1899-1901 although the time span of the collection is 1897-1922. Most of the images are of the Dawson City area, but a good portion focus on life along the creeks. Geographic locations include: Adams Hill, Bennett Lake, Bonanza Creek, Chilkoot Pass, Dawson City, Dominion Creek, Dyea Trail, Grand Forks, Miles Canyon and Whitehorse. Subjects represented include mines and mining, boat building, churches, roadhouses, sternwheelers, and sports. There are photographs of a number of individuals and images relating to the Canadian Development Company and the North West Mounted Police (NWMP).
