Administrative history

The United Nurses of Alberta is the union of over 18,000 Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses and Mental Health Workers in Alberta. Since 1977, the UNA has negotiated contracts and represented the Alberta workforce in grievances, arbitrations and inquiries. Professional staff assist with contract enforcement and patient care concerns. The UNA also serves as an advocate for universal public health care. In August 1995, the Edmonton Board of Health Staff Nurses Association became UNA Local 196. UNA Local 196 represents nurses working in the Capital Health Region (Edmonton).

The fonds consists of materials created by Local 196 of the United Nurses of Alberta in 1996-1997. The fonds consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, negotiation reports and proposals, public relations releases and other materials.
