Administrative history
This is a donation of the files of both the Summer Villages of Waiparous and Ghost Lake. The known
history of these municipalities is as follows:
The Summer Village of Waiparous is part of the Municipal District of Bighorn No.8, and was erected as a Summer Village on January 1, 1986. It is a small community located in southern Alberta, along Highway 40 and at the crossing of Ghost River, west of Cochrane. It is governed by the Waiparous Summer Village Council, there is one office administrator, and its current Mayor is Larry Anderson. As of the 2016 Census, Waiparous has a population of 49 residents-a departure from the past three years where the population had been steady at 64 residents.
The Summer Village of Ghost Lake is also part of the Municipal District of Bighorn No.8 and became a Summer Village on 31 December, 1953. It is located in southern Alberta; between the Bow Valley Trail and the northern shore of the Ghost Lake Reservoir, west of Cochrane. It is governed by the Ghost Lake Summer Village Council, there is one office administrator, and its current Mayor is John Walsh. As of the 2016 Census, Ghost Lake has a population of 82 residents.
As the two Summer Villages are managed by the same administrative team, located within the same office, the materials were donated together via board meeting motion. The Villages are managed by full-time chief administrative officer, one per village, along with a Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and a Councilor, one per site.
