The Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society was formed in 1974 to preserve the Icelandic culture and heritage of the Markerville, Alberta area. The Society is affiliated with the Icelandic National League of Canada and sponsors cultural activities in the Markerville area. In 1985, the Society undertook the restoration of the Markerville Creamery, the economic mainstay of the area from 1899-1972. It is also involved with the restoration of the Stephansson House Provincial Historic Site

Records were transferred in 10 accessions in 1974, 1975, 1982, 1989, 1991, 2000, 2001, 2008, 2010, and 2017.

Fonds consists administrative, financial, operational, and advertisements created, accumulated, and used by the Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society in its activities as a cultural society.

The types of records included are minutes, correspondence, payroll, tax forms, bills, pamphlets, conference notes, grant applications, newsletters, cheques, receipts, bylaws, attendance reports, and cemetery logs. Records often include Markerville Creamery related information.
