Fonds glen-2013 - Robert Terrill Rundle fonds

Robert Terrill Rundle, 1811-1896, was born in England. He entered business school in Cornwall in 1837, but in 1839 was called to the ministry. After only two months of training he was appointed a missionary for the Hudson's Bay Company's Saskatchewan district. He was one of four Methodists invited by the HBC to establish missions in its territory. He was ordained in March 1840 and left immediately for North America, arriving at Fort Edmonton in October. He spent most winters at Fort Edmonton, Lesser Slave Lake post and Fort Assiniboine, and during the other seasons made regular visits to Rocky Mountain House, Pigeon Lake, and Gull Lake, doing missionary work predominantly among the Cree and Assiniboine. He also went into Blackfoot country in southern Alberta and twice visited the Rocky Mountains. In 1848 he returned to England after seriously injuring an arm.
