Biographical history

Robert J. McGuinness was a Catholic priest at Banff, Alberta, Canada. McGuinness was trained in engineering before entering the priesthood. He was involved in the enlargement of the Banff Springs Hotel in the 1920s and designed and built St. Mary's Catholic Church, completed in 1951.

Fonds consists of plans for St. Mary's Catholic Church designed and executed by Father McGuinness, 1940s, 9 sheets; manuscript, "St. Mary's Church in Banff, Alberta, Canada," by Annalize Walker, Curator of the Canadian Architectural Archives, describing McGuinness and his church; also, letters to Alfred V. Roberts from Father R. J. McGuinness, regarding career in engineering, Banff Springs Hotel, religious education in Rome and Wales, architecture and construction of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1954 and 1955.
