Biographical history
The Ridge Road was constucted in 1899 to alleviate a growing transportation problem in the Klondike, after the onset of the gold rush. Travel in the valley floors was difficult because of boggy conditions and road right of way over potentially valuable mining claims was difficult to obtain. The Yukon Territorial Government committed $10,000 to construct the first government funded road in the territory. It followed the ridge between the Bonanza Creek and Hunker Creek drainages to King Solomon Dome, then continued on the ridge between Dominion Creek and Sulphur Creek to Granville at the mouth of Gold Rush Creek. Forty miles long, this road provided access to most of the major gold bearing streams in the Klondike. Roadhouses were built by entrepreneurs at intervals along the trail and many of them were on surveryed, titled lots.

Scope and content
Greg Skuce and Barbara Hogan, financed by the Northern Research Institute and sponsored by the Dawson City Museum, have been working on an inventory of the historic resources of the Ridge Road. This collection includes a report, negative film (7 rolls B&W 35mm) and transparency slide film (6 rolls colour 35mm).
