South Hill School was established in Red Deer Public School District No. 104 in 1953 in the South Hill district of Red Deer, Alberta. It was initially a two-room primary school, but was enlarged in 1961 and in 1972. In 1977 it was renamed Piper Creek Elementary School. Due to declining enrolments, the school was closed in 1998. The school building was then turned over to the North Central Francophone Education Region, which reopened it as École la Prairie in 1999
