Administrative history

The Personnel Relations Committee was created in 1969. Terms of reference approved Sept. 10, 1974 were: a) Responsible for recommending to the Board on policies covering all university employees; b) Responsible for conducting annual salary negotiations, both faculty and support staff, and preparing recommendations for Board approval. (In the event of arbitration -- to recommend to the Board on the appointment of an arbitrator and/or Board nominee to an arbitration panel.); and c) Responsible for recommendations covering all employee fringe benefits. The terms of reference were expanded in 1976 to include reviewing and making recommendations to the Board concerning the graduate assistantship schedule. Terms of reference were revised again in September 1979, when the committee's mandate was expanded to include maintaining a watching brief on provincial legislation related to labour matters. In September 1982, there was a re-organization of Board committees. At that time, the current terms of reference for Personnel Relations Committee were rescinded, and new terms of reference were approved for the Compensation Committee.
