Biographical history
Patrick Burns was born in Oshawa, Ontario in 1856 and died in Calgary, Alberta in 1937. He married Eileen Ellis of Penticton, B.C. and they had one son, Michael. Mr. Burns established P. Burns and Company, a meat packing house, and by 1918 it was one of Canada's largest meat packing companies. The company owned ranches, slaughterhouses, and wholesale and retail outlets across Canada. By 1928 P. Burns and Co. had expanded into the dairy industry, the produce trade, and developed an overseas meat packing business.

The collection consists of 6 sales receipts of meat purchases for sternwheelers and a ledger which lists the cost and weight of different meats sold to individuals and businesses in Whitehorse, Yukon.
