Fonds MRB - Milo & District Recreation Board fonds

In 1966 a group of 25 Milo-area residents petitioned the Council of the Village of Milo “... to establish a recreation area in the Village of Milo, and to authorize an agreement with The County of Vulcan #2 for joint recreation programs and a joint recreation board.” The Milo & District Recreation Board, commonly called the Rec Board, was primarily funded by annual grants from the provincial government, Department of Culture Youth and Recreation (later Recreation and Parks, Recreation Development Division).
The Milo & District Recreation Board has supported a wide range of activities and projects throughout the Milo area. Some endeavors, like the building of a baseball diamond complete with backstop and bleachers, have been on a large scale and were undertaken in partnership with the Milo & District Agricultural Society or the Milo Lions Club; others have been as small as the purchase of new serving trays for the Milo Hall. The Rec Board has established both ongoing and occasional relationships with organizations and events including the Alphabets Kindergarten, Berrywater Community Centre, Junior Hockey, Liberty Community Association, Liberty School Alberta 75th party, Milo Aquatics Club, Milo Curling Club, Milo Gymnastics Club, Milo Hall, Milo Ice, Milo Baseball and Softball Teams, Milo Library, Milo United Church, Queenstown Cleaners Hockey Club, Queenstown Community Hall, Race Meet Association, Senior Citizens Fitness Workshop, Snake Valley Drop-In Centre, Snake Valley Riding Club, and the Vulcan Regional Summer and Winter Games. This support has ranged from cash donations to loans to the purchase of equipment, supplies and building materials, in amounts from $10 to several thousand.
