History

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Milner lived in Jasper in the 1930s and late 1940s. Mr. Milner was a conductor for the Canadian National Railway. Mrs. Milner operated a dairy farm known as Milner's Dairy, 1 mile east of the Jasper townsite on the left side of the underpass in the open area. Their home, barn, and livestock were located on this site. However the haying operation for the livestock was located in the Hinton area at Drinnon. Mr. and Mrs. Art Thorsen and their family operated the haying operation. After the death of her mother, Mary Thorsen came to Jasper to live with the Milner's and continue her education. When Mary graduated as a teacher, her first school was at Bliss, near Hinton, Alberta. The dairy closed in about 1946 when new parks regulations regarding industry in the national parks and pasteurization regulations made it impossible to continue operating.
