History
Sam McDougall, 1850-1938, came from Winnipeg, Manitoba to work as a porter and dispatch rider on the 1881 railway survey through the Rockies. In the 1890s he worked on ranches near Dundurn, Saskatchewan. At one time he and his wife, Virginia Morin, lived in Qu'Appelle and owned a farm near Saskatoon. The family was Metis, and they had at least two children, Albert and Sarah Jane, 1880-[after 1960]. Sarah married George W.A. Potter and they had nine children, Earl Roy, ca. 1902-?, Frances, Gilbert "Gib", 1906-1993, Robert, William, Sarah "Sally" (Clubb), Elenor, Jessie, and Donald. George worked at a livery stable in Saskatoon ca. 1895 to 1900 and perhaps owned his own stable ca. 1908-1909. He farmed and moved buildings in the 1910s.
