Administrative history
Liberty School District #1940 was established in February 1909, and classes, up to grade 9, commenced the following year. Average enrollment was about 15 students each year, and in 1934 the school expanded to include the higher grades. In 1939, however, with the beginning of consolidation of school services and only 7 students enrolled, the decision was made to close Liberty School and van the area children in to Milo.
The building was purchased by the district in 1953 and used as a community hall, and in 1987 served as the main backdrop for a National Film Board production set in the 1930’s. It has been taken on as a Milo and District Agricultural Society Committee, and in 2015, it was one of few prairie school houses still standing on its original site.
