Leonard Jeck was born Nov 21, 1917 at New Serepta, AB. He moved to Jasper at the age of 16. For many years Len worked as a guide first for Jack Brewster and then Jack Hargreaves. During the winter months he worked as a carpenter. He served in the RCAF during WWII. Returning after the war he took over the management of the Black Cat Ranch for Fred Brewster. He married Helny Janson of Calgary in 1953. They had one daughter, Pamela Ruth. From 1956-68 he operated a pony barn at Maligne Lake. Helny worked as hostess for Bill Ruddy owner of Maligne Tours Ltd. Len purchased Art Allens outfit and continued to guide tourists. He also wrote and published two books; "The Elusive Bighorn Sheep" and "Female Grizzly Rights". Leonard Jeck passed away in 1984.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of a photo album containing 239 photographs. Included in the album are views of: Old Fort Point (1946); various buildings in the Jasper Townsite (1946-1950); various views of Leonard Jeck and others on hunting and pack trips (1948-1949); making ski picture on Mt. Athabasca (1938); Columbia Icefield Chalet under construction (1937); various views at the Columbia Icefield (1939); the Black Cat and the Black Cat Ranch [194-?]; Brule Railroad Station (n.d.); Jasper Rodeo (1937); and the Royal Visit (1939). Also included in the fonds are 72 loose photographs consisting of views of: the Hole in the Wall, Medicine Lake (1940); various views of Medicine and Maligne Lake area, including transportation between the two lakes (ca1940-1941); Jasper Park Pony Barn (1940), various views at the Black Cat ranch (1946); Leonard Jeck in RCAF uniform (1941); McBride, BC (1930); Leonard Jeck and Hope Daniels promotional photos for an eastern US clothing store (1941); Leonard Jeck with record grizzly bear (1963); Rainbow Lodge (1952); Alpine Club of Canada Camp at Maligne Lake (1950); Marmot Basin (1970); Medicine Lake Boat House and Launch (1960); Jack Hargreaves; Helny Jeck and Pamela Jeck.
