The Kerry Wood Nature Centre was established in 1982. It is a semi-autonomous operation which is currently administered by the Normandeau Cultural and Natural History Society. Located in Red Deer, the Centre is a wildlife sanctuary in Waskasoo Park which includes a building (opened in 1986) which contains interpretive displays describing the geology, vegetation and wildlife of the Red Deer Valley. The facility is named after the naturalist and author, Kerry Wood, a long-time resident of Red Deer who helped establish wildlife sanctuaries across Western Canada
