Scope and content

Jim Vader was the sixth child of Daniel and Ethel Vader. He was born 23 Feb 1925. James grew up in Spirit River. He enlisted in the army twice during World War II. He first joined on 23 April 1941 when he was only 16 years old. He was honourably discharged after 20 months. He enlisted again on 23 November 1943 and completed his training again before heading to Europe in July 1944. He was killed shortly after he arrived, on 1 Oct. 1944 and is buried in Bergen-op-zoom Canadian war cemetery in Holland.

This series contains records related to Jim Vader. Most of the records are related to his war service but some reflect his childhood in Spirit River. The records consist of photographs, letters from Jim to his family, official correspondence concerning his service and death, humourous postcards, a map of Belgium and his birth certificate.
