Biographical history

The Jasper Rodeo and Turf Club was formed in 1926 as the Jasper Horseman's Association, with members from the Cowboys Protective Society. The object of the Association was fostering love for horses and encouraging breeding of suitable types of horses for Jasper and the mountain trails. In 1931 the name of the Association was changed to the Jasper Rodeo and Turf Club. The Club hosted picnics and dances and also coordinated the Annual Field Day or Rodeo with competitions between the owners and riders of horses. The Rodeo was held for the first four years at the Henry House grounds (east of Jasper town site) until the land was developed into the flying field. In 1929 the federal government granted a special lease for what is now the Whister Campground Overflow area (west of Jasper town site) where the rodeo was held until 1968. In that year, the lease was cancelled and the outdoor rodeo cancelled, and the club disbanded.

Custodial history

The Rodeo Queen pageant records were maintained and brought to the archives by Linda Anderson, the event organizer
