Frank Bernard Jamerson was born in the Athabasca area in 1922. His grandparents were African American immigrants from Alabama and Texas. They arrived in Canada about 1910 with several other families and settled in the Athabasca area - Poplar Ridge, Rene Creek or Amber Valley and Stock. Mr. Jamerson worked as a sleeping car porter for the railway and became Secretary Treasurer of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. He is keenly interested in maintaining the record of black settlement in Western Canada.
