General note
A group of Canadian militia officers pose in front of a regimental band. The officers are most likely from the 45th West Durham battalion, which was headquartered at Bowmanville, Ontario. William Cottingham had served in this unit as D Company (Omemee) commander. He had raised an independent company at Omemee, Ontario before the Fenian raid of 1866.
