The collection reflects the diverse collecting interests of Eric Harvie and consists of materials from many different sources. Much of the material reflects western Canadian history and military history. It includes many isolated items bearing autographs of statesmen, military leaders, and other famous people. The materials were originally arranged in accession number order by the Riveredge Foundation, but subsequently the order has been lost. Many of the items within the collection have been described separately as fonds or parts of fonds.

Patterson English manuscript and publication collection

Collection consists of 17th to 20th century English manuscript records and publications that were collected by Mount Royal University professor Diana Patterson. The collection contains a wide variety of personal, legal, financial, and religious records including: diaries, travel journals, correspondence, wills, commonplace books, transcriptions of philosophical and literature texts, poetry, and sermons. Patterson intended the collection to be used to teach English and History students about paleography, scholarly editing, primary source research methods, and the history of the book.

Riveredge Foundation Ships' Logs collection

The collection consists of ships' logs, a shipboard newspaper, and a seaman's diary from merchant and naval sailing vessels. Includes the diary of John Bartlett (1790-1795), a member of the crew of the Massachusetts, an American merchant ship sailing from Boston to Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands and back to Canton via the Sandwich Islands. Bartlett then joined the American whaling ship Elenoro, bound back to the USA via Madagascar. Includes the log (1805-1806) of the Royal George, a British merchant ship sailing from England via India to China and back. Includes a manuscript newspaper published aboard the British naval vessel Alceste in 1816. Also includes logs kept aboard British naval vessels as training exercises by junior officers George Buck Keene (1844-1848), G. T. L. Bolton (1860-1865), and Collingwood Fenwick (1870-1872). These logs feature watercolour views of ports visited, profiles of coastlines, and manuscript maps.

Geraldine and Douglas Moodie fonds

The fonds consists primarily of photographs taken by Geraldine Moodie at Battleford (including an 1895 Cree sun dance), Maple Creek, and Hudson Bay; and photos taken by Douglas Moodie during the two Hudson Bay expeditions, and the Governor-General's trip. The fonds also consists of diaries kept by both Geraldine and Douglas during their time in the north, and registers and copyright records related to their photography. Significant records of their ancestors and descendants in this fonds include James FitzGibbons memoirs and correspondence re his military career and Isaac Brock (1813-1865); poems and correspondence of the Strickland women (1830-1907); Agnes Dunbar Chamberlin's botanical sketchbook (1874-1883); and newspaper clippings re the Earl and Countess of Egmont (1932-1938).

Marquess of Lorne fonds

The fonds consists of a microfilm of newspaper reports, published in The Times and The Scotsman, about Lord Lorne's tour. Includes an 1883 letter from Lord Castletown, describing a trip by CPR from Winnipeg to Calgary. The fonds also consists of photographs of sketches done during the 1881 trip, along with original 1870s sketches of European castles and scenes (possibly done by Princess Louise), which had been glued to the back of these photos. Includes a scrapbook of newspaper clippings written by Reverend James MacGregor who accompanied Lorne.

The fonds consists of personal letters to his wife, and family photographs. The letters were written to his wife Evelyn in New Brunswick, before she came to Calgary to join him. The letters describe his trip across Canada, his early life in Calgary, the establishment of his grocery store, and the arrival of the railway to Calgary (page 32). Some letters are missing pages.
