The fonds consists of photographs taken during Achilles Schmid's travels down the Athabasca River in 1912. The photographs feature images of Athabasca Landing, limestone, First Nations, rapids, Athabasca Valley, a moose hunt, a portage, boat travel, an oil derrick, Pelican Rapids, tar sands, Fort McMurray, the Athabasca Oil Company, Hudson's Bay Company scows, dog teams, wintery landscapes, Calling Lake, a school house at Lac La Biche, the Northwest Mounted Police Station at Lac La Biche, and settlers of Lac La Biche. The fonds also includes photographs and negatives copied by the Provincial Archives of Alberta for the purpose of displaying the material in the Achilles Schmid fonds.

Provides detailed accounts of travels, climbs, friends and acquaintances, particularly Grahame Cairns, Norman H. Brewster, Ken Jones; also Margaret Fleming, Bob Hind, Roger Neave and Rex Gibson. Fonds consists of nine colour, silent 8mm films of the Alfrey family's home movies filmed by the father, Dar Alfrey. Subjects include views of Alberta communities such as Carstairs, Edmonton, Wetaskiwin, Banff, Medicine Hat, Taber, Calgary, Claresholm, and Jasper. They also include such subjects as the sugar beet factory in Taber, the Calgary Zoo, Storyland Valley Zoo in Edmonton, the Al Oeming Game Farm, and Alfrey family events such as birthdays, weddings, vacations and Christmas. These films start from the time the family was living in Bow Island in 1957 and end after their return to Edmonton in 1968. Fonds also includes family photographs, family papers, records from Dar Alfrey's activities in the Edmonton Rotary Club, and teaching records of Martha Alfrey.
