General Files - Photographs

The file consists of a set of photographs primarily collected for use in DeBolt and District Pioneer Museum Society publications including "Across the Smoky", "Bridges to the Past", and the "Edson to Grande Prairie Trail". Additional photographs of the Museum and the Ladies Auxiliary to the East Smoky Legion #89, whose building was donated to the Museum, are also included.

The photographs were originally arranged topically (Persons, Business, Children, Churches, Farming, DeBolt and District Pioneer Museum, Mehlum Collection, Edson Trail, Smoky Bridge, Transportation, Schools, DeBolt Country Club, Social - Special Events) with each photograph numbered individually, but not arranged in number order. The original order has been retained by the Archivist and no images have been discarded. Several of the photographs have also had negatives made of them, which are maintained in the "General Files - Negatives" file under different numbers.

General Files - Negatives

The file consists of negatives produced from historical photographs gathered from a variety of families and individuals, primarily for use in the various publications produced by the DeBolt and District Pioneer Museum ( "Across the Smoky", "Bridges to the Past", "Edson to Grande Prairie Trail", and "DeBolt Country Club and Agricultural Society 60th Anniversary Book".

The negatives were originally arranged in topically (Family Names, Businesses, Bridges, Children, Churches, Farming, Forests, Home-Building, Museum, Nature, Special Events, Social Affairs, Stampedes, Sports Day, Transportation, Vehicles, Edson Trail, DeBolt Country Club) with each negative numbered individually, and arranged in number order. The original order has been retained by the Archivist and duplicate and strongly similar or unrelated images have been discarded. Many of the images also exist as prints in the "General Files - Photographs" file under different numbers.

Publications

This file contains NAR publications such as time table handbooks for use by employees; a handbook for the mehanical examination of firemen; and 5 editions of NAR’s newspaper “The Headlight”.

Employment Documents

This file contains NAR paystubs belonging to Dave Schenk; an enginemen’s trip report; a list of NAR staff engineers, firemen, conductors, and brakemen; two NAR staff seniority lists which list Dave’s brother (F. J. Schenk); a railway employees timebook; and a 50 year veteran certificate from the United Transportation Union.

Photographs

This file contains 56 photographs from Dave Schenk’s time working for Alberta Forest Service. The photographs are of the Pipestone Creek ferry, the Kakwa area, forestry road work, forestry cabins, tower sites, ranger stations, fire fighting, and game patrol.

Land Use Summaries

This file contains land use summary memorandums from forest officer Dave Schenk to the forest superindentent R. Smuland. These reports describe seismic activities and oil operations in the area.

Documentation Books

This file contains books used by Dave Schenk for documentation purposes during his time working for Forest Service Alberta including three copies of an Alberta Forest Service Fire Control Service book, a Fire Report notebook, a Fire Removal ticket book, a Seized Items record book, and an Engineers Field Book.

Handbooks and Manuals

This file contains an assortment of handbooks and manuals relating to forestry and Forest Service Alberta including two Forestry Course Textbooks; an air operations manual for Forest Service Alberta; three glosseries of forest fire control terms from 1963, 1970, and 1980; a Alberta Union of Provincial Employees handbook, and a Fire Line handbook.

This file contains statements of earnings (payslips) for Dave Schenk from the Government of Alberta for his work as a Forest Officer for Alberta Energy and Natural Resourses- Forest Service.
