Flora and fauna photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs of animals, plants and Ice Age bones. The photographs were part of unidentified collections and were organized under the title "Flora and Fauna" for research and exhibit purposes. They are of various sizes and formats and most were taken by amateurs although several were prints produced by well known photographers. Subject matter includes animals in natural settings - black bears and grizzlies, moose, caribou, mountain goats, Dall sheep, and a bison. There are numerous photographs of young animals, including bears, moose and rabbits, in captivity. The collection includes images of trophy game, water foul and game birds, sled dogs and huskies and a few images of flowers and gardens, and mammoth bones.

Heritage Lecture series collection

The collection consists of audio tape cassettes of lectures from 1990 to 1995 relating to various aspects of Yukon heritage. Topics addressed by the speakers include archaeology, aviation, animals and wildlife, Alaska Highway, development of Whitehorse and other settlements, heritage conservation, geology, geography, gold rush, photography, prehistory, and Yukon First Nations culture including artistry, clothing, subsistence, and medicine.

MacBride Museum sound recording collection

The collection consists of audio tape cassettes containing storytelling, oral histories, presentations, and other programs and events at the MacBride Museum and in greater Whitehorse. Includes First Nations creation stories told by Louise Profeit-LeBlanc and Ruth Carrol, drum songs by Kolvane Fox, and a narrative of Laurent Cyr's life in the Yukon presented at the 1991 Sourdough Rendezvous. The oral history interviews conducted by Museum staff and other individuals cover topics including biographical information of the persons interviewed, travel, transportation, geography, activities, and people in the Yukon. Interviews include: Roy Minter's visit with MacBride Museum Director Joanne Meehan in 1990 regarding the outdoor artifacts, his arrival in Whitehorse in 1955, involvement with the Museum, and friend William D. MacBride; an interview of Bonnie Piper by Marjorie Almstrom in 1991 on her life and travels in the Yukon beginning 1946; interview of Pat Olsen by Doreen Wahl in 1991 relating to the Whitehorse stamp club; and Neil McLeod interview relating to his work on the sternwheelers 1935-1941 and his photographs of the Yukon. The collection contains other miscellaneous sound recordings: Kitty Smith talking about her carvings, a presentation on Mount Logan by geologist Charlie Roots, the Alcan Highway and Soldier's Summit official openings, Robert Service reading his poetry, Pierre Burton on the Klondike Gold Rush, and various Museum talks and tours. Some of the audio tape cassettes were copied in the 1990s.

Chilkoot Trail collection

The collection consists of a letter and diary. The letter was written by W.P. Cellbish [?] to his father December 1897 from Lake Lindeman describing his experiences in getting to and hiking the Chilkoot Trail. The diary, written by an unidentified individual, documents a trip from Dawson City, Alaska to Whitehorse, to Skagway by train, and Dyea to Bennett Lake via the Chilkoot Trail.

Site specific photograph collection

The photographs in this collection were part of unidentified collections and were organized under the title "Site Specific" for research and exhibit purposes. Included are a very diverse range of photographs of sites and subjects in the Yukon, Alaska, along the Yukon River and the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails, British Columbia, and other locations. Yukon sites include Carcross showing a sternwheeler, railway bridge, and the town site, Ben-My-Chree on the West Taku Arm, Mayo, a log cabin at Haggart Creek in the Keno area and Dawson City. Images of Alaska include: Skagway, Dyea, Valdez, Fairbanks, St. Michael, Haines, Beaver City, Fort Yukon, Point Barrow, Louden, Ruby City, Cordova, Foster Glacier, Muir Glacier and Holy Cross Mission on the Yukon River. Images of British Columbia include: a street scene in Bennett, showing Dawson Hotel, Bennett Lake and Klondike Navigation Co. Ltd. warehouses, the church at Bennett, and an Atlin street scene showing the Kendome and Kootenay Hotels. The collection also consists of images of a native cemetery showing Spirit Houses and a native village on the Chilkat River, Pleasant Camp on the Dalton Trail, White Pass Summit, and Chilkoot Trail, Miles Canyon, Five Finger Rapids, a view from the Dome in Dawson Cityshowing the sternwheeler graveyard and islands near Moosehide, the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) Post on Dalton Trail and Tagish, circa 1898, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) station at Haines Junction, a bridge at North Fork of the Klondike River, Pueblo Mine and Grafter Mine outside of Whitehorse, Department of Transport houses in Destruction Bay, Hotel Upper LeBarge [Laberge], a ward in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Dawson City, the tram line in Whitehorse and a series of images of the Inside Passage including Prince Rupert and Alert Bay.

Unidentified photographs collection

The collection consists of photographs taken in Dawson City including a group of people posing and playing on the tennis court, nurses and their friends, a view of the town from Crocus Bluff, the cable ferry and barges at the waterfront, and the firehall and fire fighting equipment. Also included are images of the Yukon River in the Whitehorse area during spring breakup, the interior of a house, people travelling by horse-drawn carriages, and a group of individuals snowshoeing, and hunting.

The collection consists of letters from teachers around the world inquiring about Yukon job postings, Term Return for the Lambert Street School, teacher's monthly report for Whitehorse Elementary School, cost recovery sheets for children of federal employees, papers relating to official opening of Jack Hulland Elementary School and a Certificate of incorporation for the Yukon Teacher's Association.

Yukon Order of Pioneers collection

The photographs were part of unidentified collections and were organized by "Personalities, Identified" for research and exhibit purposes. The styles and formats of the images in this collection are very wide ranging; they include posed and candid, professional and amateur, studio and natural, large and small. The subjects are known individuals, small groups, organizations, ship crews, sports teams, visiting dignitaries and royalty. Occasionally captions accompany the photograph and identify people, dates, locations and/or events. There are scenes of Martha Black and George Black at a Yukon farm, Percy DeWolfe operating his motor launch, a Klondike family standing outside their cabin at their claim, magazine photographs of the discoverers of gold, British Yukon Navigation Company (BYNCo.) personnel in 1901 posing outside the White Pass commissary, passengers on the sternwheeler Dawson City 1912, IOOF Lodge Number One Dawson members, 1901 Hockey Team, the royal visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the royal visit of Princess Alexandra and the opening of the MacBride Museum Centennial Building, the visit of Governor General Vincent Massey to MacBride Museum in 1956, J.W. Boyle's Machine Gun Detachment, the crew of the sternwheeler Yukoner October 10th 1900, crew of the Gleaner, a collage of the Soapy Smith shooting, a White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) construction scene in Caribou Crossing [Carcross], crew of Locomotive Engine 51, the Whitehorse and Skagway Brass Band, crew and passengers of the sternwheeler L.A. There are several series of photographs including images of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) with American service personnel, the crew of the WW II Navy Ship Weyburn, portraits of Commanders of the NWHS from 1946-1960, Skagway newsboys in 1898, Buchanan Boys in Atlin B.C. 1925, and Charles C. Percival in Abbot-Detroit "Bull Dog" on its 100,000 mile durability run. Communities and locations in this collection include: Whitehorse, Dawson City, Carcross [Caribou Crossing], Skagway, Miles Canyon, Pullen House, Assay office at the Pueblo Mine 1912, Atlas Mine, Atlin, North West Mounted Police (NWMP) Barracks and Customs House Boundary out of Haines, and Nice, France.
