Fonds consists mainly of scenic transparency views arising from Leacock's climbs, hikes, horse and car trips in the Canadian Rockies and Selkirks from the Crowsnest Pass through Jasper National Park, ca.1939 to 1984. Also included are travels in Yukon, Canada and the United States, including Alaska. Negatives date from 1925 to 1940? and pertain to Assiniboine, Lake Louise, Banff, Banff-Jasper, Columbia Icefield and other mountain areas; also natural history, including wildflowers and wildlife. A small number of negatives are accompanied by prints. Other prints pertain to Leacock, family, events and scenic views. Diaries pertain to Leacock's personal life, giving details of musical, writing, artistic and dramatic activities; teaching and tour guiding; hikes and climbs in the Canadian Rockies; and friends, including Herbert Hahn and Stewart Cameron. Some letters are from Earle Birney, 1926-1978. Sound recordings are interviews with Leacock re his career in music, including performing, composing and teaching; also music played by Leacock.

Publications include issues of Strom's newsletter, "The Assiniboine wrangler. Also includes: "To the top of the continent" by Frederick A. Cook, 1908, a published account of Cook's fraudulent first ascent of Mount McKinley, heavily annotated by Belmore Browne who refuted Cook's claim in 1909; and a letter from Lieutenant Colonel H. Westmorland of Keswick, Cumberland, to Mr. Randow, 1970 April 9, outlining Westmorland's skiing and climbing career in the Canadian Rockies. Photographs pertain to Erling Strom, family, friends, associates, homes; camps, including Mount Assiniboine Camp; trips and expeditions, including expedition to Mount McKinley. Pertains to Banff and area buildings, facilities, activities, events, such as Banff Winter Carnival and Banff Indian Days; Indians; scenic views of Banff and area and other Rocky Mountains locations. II. Commercial views, 765 items; includes buildings, businesses, facilities, sports events, organizations, conventions, group portraits, displays and presentations. III. Mixed views, 242 items; includes scenic, documentary and commercial views similar to material in previous series. Also includes some views know to have been produced by Fred Armbrister, a professional photographer who operated out of Lake Louise, Alberta, ca.1930. IV. Portraits, ca.4600. This series contains four groups: A. 1920s-1950s, most unidentified; B. 1930s and 1940s, arranged alphabetically, many unidentified; C. 1950s, arranged alphabetically, most identified, many with proofs (prints); D. 1950s, arranged chronologically by job number. Includes 36 colour stereo transparencies, ca.1955, re Administration Building and gardens, Banff-Jasper Highway scenics, mountain sheep, autumn colour, Banff Avenue, George Noble and staff. Audio tapes recorded to assist with preparation of newspaper reports and eventually used to prepare "Canadians on Everest." Transmissions included those communications exchanged between climbers and base camp and broadcasts monitored on another radio from Kathmandu transmissions, August to October 1982. Recordings were made on a small Hitachi recorder. Accompanied by notes.
