Fonds consists of Bo Holroyd warden journals for 1920 to 1947 (1928 journal missing). Journals present a personal record of work activities as Park Warden and Supervising Warden of Waterton Lakes National Park. Details pertain to patrols, horses, fire control, trail building and maintenance, search and rescue, fish and wildlife duties, law enforcement, supervision, administration, etc. They contain particularly valuable observations on ungulate populations, wildlife management, game, warden service duties and programs and human activity in the park.

Fonds consists of a broad-ranging commercial negative collection in two series. Mainly scenic, skiing and documentary views of Banff and area, the Rocky Mountains and some other Alberta and British Columbia locations. Photographs include many Banff personalities known to the photographer. I. Candid, action and scenic views. -- [ca.1928-ca.1954]; predominantly 1933-[ca.1940]. -- ca.1750 items : mainly negatives; 12.5 x 17.5 cm or smaller; most are 8 x 10.5 cm or smaller. -- Series pertains to skiers, ski action and competition, ski touring; Mount Norquay, Sunshine, Assiniboine, Skoki and Yoho regions; scenic views in Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks and Revelstoke area; Banff Indian Days and Indians; horses and trail riding; Banff buildings and facilities; personal and family photographs. Views were taken for personal and business purposes. Includes early vest pocket camera shots and later view camera work. Negatives are not numbered by the photographer except for a small sub-series with original numbers 1 through 86. Some negatives accompanied by duplicate views. (V108 / 1 - 1927);II. Fonds consists of two series: I. Dan McCowan series; II. Mary E.(Fee) McCowan series. I. Dan McCowan series, ca.1905-1967?, ca.30 cm of textual records and ca.3400 photographs. Includes five sub-series: A. Correspondence; B. Writing; C. Photography; D. Professional activities; E. Ephemera. Correspondence includes incoming letters re writing, business and broadcasting. Writing is in the form of notes and notebooks, unpublished and published manuscripts, newspaper articles and other materials. Photography includes negatives, lantern slides, 35mm transparencies and prints. Material pertains to flora, fauna, people, places and scenery, also family, activities and events. Photographs of Banff personalities and visitors are available in negative and lantern slide form, 254 items. Lantern slides were designed for lectures such as: "On skyline trails in the Canadian Rockies"; "On nature trails at Banff and Lake Louise"; "A naturalist in the Canadian Rockies" (200 slides); "Snow peaks and flower meadows in the Canadian Rockies" (200 slides); "Over the hills and far away: a pictorial review of the Canadian Rockies"; "Victory Day, May 8th 1945, Dan McCowan presents: Bye-gone days in Banff" (exact titles were based on title slides). II. Mary E. (Fee) McCowan series consists of diaries, 1926-1957, photocopied from 12 volumes (19 cm), and letters from Dan McCowan, 1943. Diaries discuss joint travels, activities, lecture tours for CPR (Canada, US, UK), Banff, trail rides, skyline hikes, and Royal Visit, 1939.

Fonds consists primarily of expedition records in four multi-media volumes. Fonds also contains lantern slides and print material. Material pertains to the 1927 Ostheimer Expedition and the 1926 advance expedition by Alfred J. Ostheimer III and John de Laittre II. It describes expedition activities, topography, drainage, geographic names, mountains and mountaineering, geology, glaciation, flora, fauna and meteorology, etc., of the Jasper, Whirlpool, Clemenceau, Chaba and Columbia areas and is illustrated with photographs, maps and cartoons. Volumes titles are: 1927 Ostheimer Expedition, Canadian Rockies : Report / by Alfred J. Ostheimer III (2 v : 569 p.); 1927 Ostheimer Expedition, Canadian Rockies : Every other day / Alfred J.
