Biographical history

Ida Johnson graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing, Edmonton, in 1924. She joined the staff of the Hospital's operating room, receiving promotion to supervisor of the unit, then to assistant superintendent of nurses. From 1949 to 1959 she was director of nursing at the Hospital. Miss Johnson pursued further education during her career: at the Women's Hospital in New York City and at the University of Western Ontario. On her retirement from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in 1959 she accepted a position as administrator of the Olds Municipal Hospital. Ida Johnson served as President of the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses and was made an honourary member of the Association in 1969.

Custodial history

The document was in the possession of Jean Mackie until she donated it to the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses Archives and Museum in 1989.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of one letter, written by Ida Johnson to Jean Mackie, describing the 50th anniversary weekend for Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing alumnae (1975).
