Biographical history

Hubert Alan Hollingworth was born in February 8, 1912 in Lloydminster, Alberta to Harry L. and Minnie Hollingworth. The Hollingworth Family came to Canada in 1903 and settled at the Barr Colony. The Hollingworth Family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, when Harry began working for the Atlas Lumber Company. In 1924, Hubert began a photographic apprenticeship with Bell Studios in Edmonton. In 1936, Hubert married Violet Faulkner, and they had a daughter, Lucille. From 1939 to 1945, Hubert worked as an aerial photographer for the United States Army during the WWII. After the war, Hubert returned to Edmonton and he worked as a photographer for McDermid Studios, the Edmonton Journal, and the Edmonton Bulletin. During this period, Hubert also helped found the Edmonton Camera Club and operated his own photographic studio. From 1954 to 1976, Hubert worked for the federal Department of Supply and Services. In 1976, Hubert retired and began volunteering at the City of Edmonton Archives. While volunteering for the City of Edmonton Archives, Hubert copied and cataloged many of his own photographs. Hubert passed away in 1988.

Custodial history

Hubert Hollingworth deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1977 and 1981. Hubert Hollingsworth donated the films represented in this fonds to the City of Edmonton Archives. In 1998, the City of Edmonton Archives donated the films to the Provincial Archives of Alberta

Scope and content

The fonds includes photographs of the Globe Lumber Company Yard in Holden, Alberta, the Atlas Lumber Company Yard in Lougheed, Alberta, and the 1933 Morrin Fliers softball team. The fonds also includes a film featuring footage of "The Coronation of Their Majesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth" (Castle Films/Pathegrams Inc., 1936), Queen Victoria dating from [1900], Edward VII and Queen Alexandra dating from ca. 1901 -- 1910, and Queen V and Queen Mary dating from ca. 1910 -- 1936. In addition, the fonds contains a film containing footage of "The News Parade - the Visit of King Geroge VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada at the United States" (1939, Castle Films).
