Biographical history

George Hodgson, 1846-1946, was born at Isle a la Crosse, Saskatchewan and worked for many years as a trapper, fur trader and hunter. Hodgson learned several First Nations languages such as Cree, Blackfoot and Stoney, and about 1883 began work for the Department of Indian Affairs as a farm instructor on the Sarcee (Tsuu T'ina) reserve near Calgary, Alberta. He retired in 1921. In 1870 Hodgson married Marie Madeline Bruneau, ?-1926, and they had twelve children, Marie Madeline, 1871-1885, Philomene Lucy (Glenn), 1873-1908, George Henry, 1875-1875, William John, 1876-1886, Margaret, 1878-1892, Albert James, 1889-1889, Elizabeth Rosalie (Lee), 1880-1952, Christina Martha (Scott), 1882-1934, Catherine Frances (Pitman), 1884-1965, Susanne, 1887-1887, Julie Victoria (Whitney), 1891-1975, and Bertha Violet (Thompson), 1894-1937. In 1913 the Hodgson's daughter Elizabeth married George Francis Lee, 1876-1965, of Midnapore and they had five children, John Francis, George Edward, Philip Henry, 1918-1986, Mary Madeline "Bobby", 1920-ca. 1994, and William Thomas, 1921-1977.
