Biographical history

Hector Joseph Perrier (1927-1966) was born in Alfred, Ontario. Hector settled in Nelson, B.C. in l903, learning the trade of photographer at Wadd's Photography. Hector Perrier operated a studio portrait and film finishing business in Pincher Creek, Alberta, from 1906 to 1915. Hector was married in Calgary in 1909. The family lived in Salmon Arm B.C. 1915-1918 operating a small photography business. After moving to Edmonton in 1918 Hector was employed as a salesman at Adam Esch Stationery, Alderson Photography, McCutcheon's, Hudson Bay Co. and Prudential Life Insurance Co. In 1927 he relocated to Jasper. Perrier opened a photo shop in Jasper and operated it until he turned it over to his son Art in 1948. H.J. Perrier passed away in St. Albert on July 21, 1966.

Custodial history

These negatives were found in Fort Point Lodge appartment building by the building manager, Bob Stevenson in May 1978.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of 1202 portrait negatives taken by H.J. Perrier. Included are families, individuals, religious figures and several of men in military uniform. Most of the portraits are of Jasper residents (1920-1954). Also includes one view of the Jasper Townsite (1930).
