Biographical history

The Hardin-Rodnunsky-Satanove Benevolent Society, also known as HRS Society, was formed in May 1944 in Edmonton, Alberta by members of the Hardin, Rodnunsky, and Satanove families. The purpose of the society was to find remaining relatives and assist in refugee immigration, to provide assistance to relatives overseas and elsewhere, and to set up a scholarship fund for students with financial difficulties. Membership was composed of any direct descendants, including spouses and children, of Samuel Hardashnikov (Hardin). The first executive of the association included Harry Hardin as chairman, Lucy Satanove as secretary-treasurer, and committee members Hyman Satanove, Simon A. Simovitch (Simons), Freda Slutsky, Sam Satanove and Martha Hardin. The society met monthly, held social gatherings, and raised funds with dinners, raffles and bridge games. The society was still active in 1999 on an irregular basis.
