Biographical history

Dr. A.H. Baker received his medical degree from University of Toronto and became the Director of the Rocky Mountain Sanatorium in Frank, Alberta in 1917. In 1919 he moved to Calgary, Alberta and became the Medical Superintendent of the Central Alberta Sanatorium, which was renamed the Baker Memorial Sanatorium in the early 1950's after Baker's death. Baker was married in 1920 and, during his lifetime, was President of the Canadian Tuberculosis Association (now Canadian Lung Association), Director of the Tuberculosis Division of the Alberta Department of Health, and a member of the Tuberculosis Veterans Section of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League, in Alberta.

Custodial history

Dr. H.H. Stephens, of the Aberhart Memorial Sanatorium, deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1970. Dr. Stephens' relationship with Dr. A.H. Baker is unknown.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of a scrapbook dating 1928-1953 that contains newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, invitations, programmes, and various issues of the Central Alberta Sanatorium's newsletter.
