Biographical history

Meyer Furman arrived in Edmonton in 1925 from Pinsk, Poland, sponsored by the Grabow family. In 1928, his wife, Bunia Bella and her three sons, Bill, Aaron and Moe, arrived in Canada on the SS Polinka. Meyer learned the bakery business from Meyer Sheckter of Alberta Bakery, and then left to open Furman's Tasty Bread Bakery on 97th St. Meyer and Bunia Bella had five children: William, Aaron, Moe and Larry and daughter Eva. Eva married Allan Marcus of Marcus furs. William married Goldie, and they ultimately ran the business until its closure.

The material was donated to JAHSENA by Goldie Furman in 2006, after being returned to her by her accountant, who held the records since 1962.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of financial records of Furman's Tasty Bread Bakery, including financial statements, payroll accounts and tax returns from 1962-1999.
