Biographical history
Irene Frieda Herbert was born on 25 August 1918 in Alsask, Saskatchewan. She married Horace Edward Ramsell on 20 September 1939 in Camrose, Alberta. The Ramsells settled in Camrose and had three children: Carol, Adair, and Brian. Irene and Horace Ramsell were divorced in 1962.
Irene Ramsell began studies for a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alberta in 1956. She began teaching at the Sifton School in Camrose the following year before earning her teaching certificate in 1960 and her Bachelor’s degree in 1967. She then became an English professor at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, remaining in that position until her retirement in 1983.
Irene Ramsell died in 2006.
Custodial history
Irene Ramsell’s daughter, Carol Wodak, received the documents after the death of her mother in 2006. Ms. Wodak donated the collection to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 2013.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of the personal records of Irene Ramsell including family photographs, birth and death certificates, university degrees, post cards, greeting cards, family trees, teaching qualification documents and bibles.
