The Fireweed Project was a project at the Peace River Centennial Museum [now Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre], which was funded through the Local Initiatives Program. The LIP was a Federal government program aimed at reducing winter unemployment and allowing local groups and business’ to complete projects. The Fireweed Project documented buildings, activities and people around the Peace River area between the years of 1976-1977. The project employed Gloria Gaw, Lorraine Gushlack and Murray Cook.

The material in the fonds was created by employees of the Peace River Centennial Museum [now Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre].
Scope and content
The fonds contains 4 series. The Ukrainian Easter egg series has 47 colour slides of a demonstration of creating Ukrainian Easter Eggs. The Oral Histories series contains taped interviews from local Peace River residents. The Murray Cook series has buildings, activities and people from the Peace River region, all taken in the fall of 1975 by Murray Cook, then curator of the Peace River Centennial Museum [now Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre]. The “From Peace River Crossing to Peace River” series contains 202 slides put together as a slideshow to give the history of Peace River.
