History
Frank Robert Falconer was born in 1883 in Bismark, N.D. He moved to Edmonton in 1905 and to Athabasca in 1910, opening a hardware store on Litchfield Avenue. The store relocated twice. His brother, Howard B. Falconer, worked in the store from 1912-1915. Frank was in partnership with Charles E. Nancekivell in Athabasca Funeral Supply Co. until 1919. Frank married Catherine MacIntyre [1884]-1967, a teacher from Ontario, in Tees, AB. They had 5 children: Jean, Doris, Frank Leonard, Catherine and Audrey. He retired from the store in 1963 and died in 1970. He was active in the town band, curling club, United Church board, and Freemasons. He served as mayor of Athabasca for many years and as Liberal MLA from 1930-1935. Frank Leonard Falconer was born in Athabasca in 1915. He attended Edmonton Normal School and taught in the Athabasca district for several years. During WWII he worked in Ottawa at the R.C.A.F. Treasury Branch and at Canadian General Electric. He returned to Athabasca in 1948 to manage the family hardware business until it closed in 1963. He resumed teaching, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Freemasons, County of Athabasca Board of Education, Athabasca Archives, Athabasca Library Board, and United Church. He died in 1986. Frank married Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Goddard in 1942. They had 4 children: Susan, John, Jill and Judy.
