History

John Philip Evans, born in 1878 in Wales, came to Athabasca in 1912 to work for the Crown Lumber Co. He became secretary-treasurer of the Town of Athabasca in 1916, retiring from the post in 1950. In 1906 he married Agnes Mary Isobel Ogden in B.C. They had three children: Anwyl (Bill), Molly, and Robert. John was a life member of the Union of Alberta Municipalities, a supporter of the Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the school board and I.O.O.F. Agnes died in 1953 and John died in 1959.
