He operated a radio-television-appliance sales and service store in Thorhild from 1953-1962. He constructed one of Alberta's first cable television systems in the Town of Athabasca in 1960, Superior Communications Systems Ltd., which he operated for 10 years. He initiated Athabasca Clayworks, 1964-1969, which produced ceramics from local clay. He was the mayor of Athabasca in 1967. In 1970 Ed was granted a license for a company that he named QCTV which installed cablevision systems in 25 Alberta towns and cities. In 1973 he sold the Athabasca system and moved to St.Albert.
