Biographical history
The Dinton Women's Institute was founded March 22, 1916 in the rural area known as Dinton, Alberta, located east of Okotoks, and was part of the Calgary-Okotoks Constituency of the Alberta Women's Institute. The objectives of the Dinton Women's Institute was to help rural women acquire home management and leadership skills, strengthen communities through active involvement, and build mutually beneficial social networks. The Dinton Women's Institute dissolved in 2001.
Custodial history
The fonds was donated by the last secretary of the Dinton Women's Institute, Norma McKeage on Oct. 2, 2008. She had stored the items since the Dinton Women's Institute folded in 2001.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of minutes, cash books, annual reports, financial statements, photographs and scrapbooks of the Dinton Women's Institute; minute books, financial statements and cash books of the Dinton Hall Board; minute and cash book of the Jolly Girls Club, which was a WI affiliate ; minutes, planning documents and soft-covered community/family history book of the Dinton Women's Institute History Book Committee.
