He taught school for several years before going into the hardware business with his father. He moved to Red Deer, Alberta in 1903 in order to open up a hardware business. In the following year he became a partner of Edward Michener in the large real estate, mortgage and insurance agency later known as Michener, Carscallen & Chadsey. In 1904 he married Mary Belle "Molly" Bond, 1876-1961. They had three children: Alan, Beth (Fowler), and Eula (Lapp). Stan was a Red Deer alderman, 1910-1913, and mayor in 1914. The family left Red Deer in 1917 after the financial collapse of Michener, Carscallen & Chadsey. Stan then worked as an insurance agent in Medicine Hat and later in Calgary. In 1933 he and his family moved to Sylvan Lake where he started the real estate and insurance firm Carscallen Agencies. Stan and Molly are buried in the Red Deer Cemetery.
