Biographical history
Charles Edward Carr, 1879-1958, was born in New Brunswick and came to Calgary via Wisconsin, USA in 1885. He managed the Eau Claire and Bow River Lumber Company, 1919-1945, and the Calgary Water Power Company, 1919-1927. He was a city alderman, 1931-1933. In 1908 he married Elizabeth Cartwright, ?-1950, who was born in Winnipeg and came to Calgary in 1898. In 1907 she was a seamstress for Semi-Ready Wardrobe. Charles and Elizabeth had three children, Helen Elizabeth (McCormick), Laurence Edward Neil, 1921-2000, and Kenneth. Helen, 1909-1993, was born in Calgary. She was educated at Central Collegiate Institute and the Calgary Normal School. She was briefly married to John E. McCormick, ca. 1950-1953, and they had one daughter, Rosemary (Brown), 1952 - . She subsequently worked for Office Reproductions, the Calgary Presbytery of the United Church, and the Calgary Board of Education. She retired in 1979. She was active in a variety of organizations, including the Volunteer Auxiliary Drivers' Corps, Southern Alberta Pioneers and their Descendants, Knox United Church, Glencoe Club, Alberta Social Credit League, and Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies.

The fonds consists of Elizabeth's diary (1907); Charles' campaign leaflet and business papers, Spray Camp ledger (1926-1927), and Ghost Camp accounts (1920-1922); Helen's CCI and Normal School notebooks (1920s), proceedings of the 1968 Social Credit leadership convention, and papers related to her activities in the VADC (1941), Southern Alberta Pioneers (1944-1986), Knox United (1919-1966), Glencoe Club (1963-1970) and Skyline Hikers (1944-1971); Rosemary's school records, childhood art works, and greeting cards; photographs of the McCormick and Cartwright families, Calgary personalities, businesses and sports events (1904-1947); greeting cards and bills of Elizabeth's brother, George Cartwright (1904-1917); and miscellaneous programs for Calgary events (1901-1982).
