Biographical history

Carl William Walin was born in Minnesota in 1900. He moved to Canada in 1919 after graduating from photography school in Illinois. He opened a photographic studio in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and became a well-respected photographer in the province. Walin operated his studio until 1958 when he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. While in Vancouver he operated a small studio and practiced photography for one year before retiring altogether. He later returned to Edmonton, Alberta where he died in February 1966. At his death Walin was survived by his second wife, Pearl, his son, Dale and his daughter, Mrs. Keith (Leone) Provost. His first wife, Dagne, predeceased him in 1943. Walin won two merit awards from the Professional Photographers' Association of America and several awards in other competitions. He was an accredited photographer for the Royal Tour made by King George VI in 1939 and for the tour of Canada by Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1951. Walin was also a 32-degree Scottish Rite mason, a member of the Al Azhar Temple and a past patron of the Eastern Star in Wetaskiwin.
