Biographical history
The Calgary United Scottish Games Association grew out of an annual highland games held in Banff and Calgary, Alberta beginning about 1927. Games were held until about 1961, with the exception of the war years, usually at Mewata Stadium in Calgary. The Association was incorporated in 1962 but was inactive until about 1969 when new games were held at Calgary's Heritage Park. Other venues included Glenmore Stadium and Currie Barracks. There was another hiatus during the 1980s but in 1989 the games were revived, often at the Beddington Community Centre. The games were organized for many years by representatives from other Scottish groups in the city including the St. Andrew Caledonian Society, and the Alberta Highland Dancing Association, Calgary Branch.
