Administrative history

Calgary Theatre Singers, an amateur theatre company, was founded by Eileen Higgin in Calgary, Alberta in 1959. Over the next twenty years the group staged 34 musicals, primarily at the Jubilee Auditorium. The company's greatest successes were The Sound of Music in 1965 and My Fair Lady in 1972, both of which were attended by more than 12,000 people. CTS turned professional in 1977 and moved into the Backlot Theatre. The company folded in 1980. The remaining assets were distributed in 1982 to the Banff Centre, The Western Board of Music, and the Kiwanis Music Festival to be awarded as Eileen Higgin Music Scholarships.
