Sharon Cairns was born in Edmonton, Alberta ca. 1945 to Leo Pekarsky and Minnie (Dlin) Pekarsky. She worked for many years as the director of the Alberta Jewish National Fund office in Edmonton and married musician Bobby (Robert) Cairns. Together they had two sons, Jason and Matt. Bobby Cairns was born ca. 1933 in Saskatchewan. He moved to Alberta and in 1971 became a music teacher at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta. He became chair of the jazz guitar program there in 1975, remaining in that position for over thirty years. Cairns worked with many musicians over the years, including Tommy Banks and Chet Baker. He released his first solo album, <em>Indelible</em> in 2005.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of items created and collected by the Cairns family from [ca. 1953]-2005, including newspaper clippings, a eulogy for Leo Pekarsky, and a photograph of Sharon Cairns and Donna Weisler. Fonds also includes two laser photocopies of photographs dated ca. 1953 and ca. 1958 that depict the guests at the sweet sixteen party of Judy Shugarman, and the dedication of the Edmonton Talmud Torah School to Leo Pekarsky. Fonds also includes 36 photos from the Talmud Torah 75th anniversary dinner in 1987. Fonds also includes two music CDs, one by Bobby Cairns and one of Superband featuring Jason Cairns.
