Scope and content
Al Greber started to work in the oilfield almost start from school. He began with driving truck hauling equipment and eventually ran cats and other equipment. In the late 70's Al started buying equipment of his own to run. He operated out of his farm in Lymburn. The business slowly expanded and with each rise in oil prices saw an increase in equipment and employees. In the 1980's Al bought a shop in Hythe that eventually included the abandoned neighbouring Saskatoon berry plant building. Through his company, Al also gave back to the community by helping with numerous community projects including working on the Bear Hills Rodeo grounds, the Spring Lake Ski Hill and the new Hythe Legion. By the time of the Big Valley auction sale at All Peace Auctions in Grande Prairie the company had grown quite large with numerous employees.
The series consists of records from Big Valley Construction. The records include a magazine from the auction sale of Big Valley Construction as well as photographs taken while the company was in operation. The photographs are mainly of the various pieces of machinery owned by Big Valley Construction. There also a few photographs of a Christmas party that was held at the Hythe Hotel in the 1980's as well as photographs of the shop in Hythe.
