Biographical history

Stuart Darroch lived in Edmonton from the early 1900s and worked first in the insurance and then in the real estate and insurance business. His wife, Beatrice Purches, worked as a stenographer with the government for many years. Darroch's first partner was W.C. Bissell but eventually the firm was his alone. Between 1942 and 1945 Darroch was elected to three terms as the President of the Edmonton Real Estate Board.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of materials collected or created by Beatrice Purches and Stuart Darroch of Edmonton between 1905 and 1978. The fonds consists of ledgers of the Darroch-Bissell Trust and other companies, Edmonton Real Estate Board bylaws and reports, a ledger of Stuart Darroch Ltd., and various souvenir and tourist publications, cook books, craft books and other mementos.

The fonds was donated to the City of Edmonton Archives by the Jean Darroch estate in 1989 and 1990.
