Biographical history

The Banff School of Management was established in 1954 to offer short-term programs in management studies to senior executives. Programs in cultural resource management and environmental resource management were added in 1973 and 1980. In 1989, the School was renamed The Banff Centre for Management and restructured into nine program areas: Senior Executive Programs, Managing in Cross-Cultural Environments, Health Care Administration, Arts Administration, General Management and Specialized Programs for the Administrative Assistant/Executive Secretary, Customized Management Development, and the Banff Festival of Mountain Films. Directors for this period include E.M. Mills (1978-1981), Peter Greene (1981-1989), Donald Simpson (1990-1992), Ross Risvold (1993), and Doug Macnamara (1994-).
