Biographical history
The Balmoral Ladies Hospital Aid was organized on 17 May 1910 as a branch of the Red Deer Ladies' Hospital Aid, which was both a fund raising and a volunteer aid organization for the Red Deer Memorial Hospital. The Balmoral Ladies' Hospital Aid was made up of interested women from the Balmoral district. It operated as a branch of the Ladies Hospital Aid until 1912, when the name was changed to the Balmoral Ladies' Hospital Aid. During the First World War the group acted as a branch of the Red Cross Society. The group became defunct by 1919, but was re-organized in Apr. 1922 as the Balmoral Ladies' Hospital Aid. In Mar. 1926 it was decided by the membership to convert their organization into a Women's Institute, which occurred on 7 May 1926 with the organization of the Balmoral Women's Institute. Known presidents of the Balmoral Ladies' Hospital Aid were: Sarah Jenkins (1910-1913), Mrs. J. E. Elder (1914), Mrs. D. S. Urquhart (1922-1924), and Catherine M. Bowers (1924-1926)
